So you’re recently engaged and ready to dive into wedding planning! What an exciting time for you! You might ask yourself when you need to book all of your wedding vendors. There’s no right or wrong answer to that question. Once you have a wedding date set and a wedding venue selected, you can move on to finding a photographer! So the real question is when to book your wedding photographer?
It’s Never too Early
It is important to note that it is never too early to book your wedding photographer! Sometimes photographers can book two (or more) years in advance. If you feel silly reaching out because your date seems forever away, don’t!
Busy Season
Across each state, there will be busier seasons and months than others. The most popular month to get married here in Seattle is August. If you’re getting married in a popular month in your area, photographers can typically book 12-18 months. Prime Saturday dates go quickly, so you will want to book your photographer ASAP if you’re getting married on a Saturday. If you’re getting married on a Friday or Sunday, you might have a greater chance of securing the photographer you want.
If You’re Eloping…
It’s a little different if you are eloping or planning an intimate wedding. Usually, you don’t have to book your photographer too far in advance for this. Most photographers should be available if you’ve chosen to get married on a weekday! You could probably get by with hiring your wedding photographer three months in advance. In any case, if travel needs to be booked, the sooner, the better to avoid being overcharged.
When to book your wedding photographer depends on several things! It is important to book a wedding as early as possible if you have a popular wedding date. If you’ve had your eye on your dream wedding photographer, there’s nothing wrong with reaching out to them and asking them their availability before choosing a date!
